2010 LEGISLATIVE SESSION

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

During the 2010 legislative session HF426 was passed that benefited reserve officers.  Representative Bob Kressig introduced this bill in the house and worked very hard to see passage of this bill.

This bill provides that a traffic accident involving the operation of a motor vehicle by a law enforcement officer or a reserve peace officer shall be reported to the state department of transportation by the law enforcement officer’s employer or the reserve peace officer’s employer.  The employer shall certify to the department whether or not the accident occurred in the line of duty while operating an official government vehicle.

Section 1.   Section 321.267A, subsection 4, Code 2009, is amended to read as follows:
  4.  For the purposes of this section, “certified law enforcement officer” means includes a law enforcement officer who is certified though the Iowa law enforcement academy as provided in section 80B.13, subsection 3, or section 80B.17 a reserve peace officer certified through the Iowa law enforcement academy as provided in section 80D.4A.
