A great time and fun filled weekend was had by those that attended the 38th Annual Conference and Business Meeting that was held at the Ramada Northwest in Urbandale on April 9-10-11, 2010. Immediate Past President Brad Thomas was the conference chairperson.
The Board of Directors meeting was held on Friday morning, allowing all of the board members to help set up for the conference on Friday afternoon. Later in the day, as the other guests arrived, many were able to greet old friends that they had not seen since the last conference.
Friday evening, everyone was able to meet in the ISRLOA hospitality room to visit and enjoy the company of those that they may not have seen since the last conference. Brian Thomas served as the host of the hospitality room. Music, Karoke and dancing on Friday evening was provided by DJ Chris Anderson. Many also enjoyed some of the local restaurants in the Urbandale area.
Saturday morning began with registration and the opening ceremony. President Rod Fitzgerald opened the 38th Annual Conference and Business Meeting by calling for the presentation of the colors by the Des Moines Police Reserve. Ed Seggerman gave an opening prayer. After welcoming everyone President Fitzgerald then introduced Conference Chairperson Brad Thomas, who then welcomed everyone to Urbandale.
The morning activities finished with district meetings and the annual business meeting, which included reports of officers, business of the association and the election of a new 3rd Vice President.
Saturday afternoon’s first seminar was conducted by Sgt Andrew Eway of the Maryland State Patrol.
Saturday evening began with the annual banquet. Guest speaker was Steve Bogle. After the banquet everyone was entertained by comedian Ed Vos.
Sunday morning started with a brunch, at which time the new 3rd Vice President, Quinn Turner of the West Des Moines PD were introduced. The plaques from the 2009 shoot were presented to the winners by ISRLOA chief range officer Ted Kamatchus and shoot chairperson Rod Fitzgerald.
This years conference was well attended and many enjoyed a educational and fun-filled weekend. Once again, exhibitors were on hand to show the latest equipment in law enforcement as well as items of interest to the spouses. The 2011 Conference and Business Meeting will be held in Storm Lake.
