Originally
from a small town in Middle Tennessee, Borden Plunkett has lived in Mason
City since 1993 and joined the MCPD reserves in early 2007. Having worked at
several odd jobs after graduating from high school, he started work on his
college degree in his mid twenties. Borden earned his bachelor and master
degrees in communications from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
After teaching speech and composition at a small college in Tennessee, he
accepted a job at North Iowa Area Community College where teaches courses in
literature, composition and speech, and self-defense. Borden has been
on the faculty at NIACC since 1993.
In addition to teaching at NIACC, he has also taught traditional Karate for
over twenty years. Borden has trained in Karate for 30 years; he holds
the rank of 5th degree black belt in Shoto-kan Karate and 3rd degree black
belt in Wado-Ryu Karate. In addition to his interest in Karate, he also
runs. In 2007 he completed the Chicago Marathon, and he frequently runs in
the annual Dam-to-Dam 12K in Des Moines.
Borden lives in Mason City with his wife Michele, daughter Alexa, and son
Marcus.
