Kevin
became interested in law enforcement while a sophomore at Sac City
High School, and spent many weekends riding with officers from the
police department, sheriff’s department and the Iowa State Patrol
during high school. He attended DMACC law enforcement program
for one year in 1975, and was hired as a part time officer at Sac
City. The following fall he attended Western Iowa Tech in
Sioux City studying Police Science. He started as a fulltime
officer for the Rockwell City Police Department and attended ILEA in
1978. He then worked for the Storm Lake Police Department
until 1984.
Due to personal reasons he left law enforcement, but still had an urge to be involved. When Buena Vista County Sheriff Chuck Eddy instituted a reserve program in July, 1999, he was one of the first to join and served as the unit president for 6 years. He is a Life Member of the ISRLOA and feels very strongly about what the association does and what can be accomplished as a group.
