Mt. Pleasant News
Four local children left yesterday morning for camp, thanks to the work of Iowa State Reserve Law Officers Association (ISRLOA) and Henry County Sheriff's Reserve Deputies.
Kameron Fracaro and Walker Lunsford of Mt. Pleasant, Kenny Lyon of St. Paul and Skylar Moseley of Salem loaded their gear into a Sheriff's Department squad car and headed out for the Wildwood Hills Ranch in Madison County, just west of Des Moines.
Each year ISRLOA sponsors five youngsters to go to camp.
Usually, the children come from across the state, but this year requests for service were down so the Henry County Sheriff's Reserve Deputies worked with the Iowa State University Extension office in Mt. Pleasant to pick four kids from in and around Mt. Pleasant.
"We decided we'd rather have some kids from our area," Reserve Deputy Ed Seggerman said.
Laura Merschman was on hand to see her son, Kenny, as he left.
"He's excited to go," Merschman said. "I'm hoping he learns to be a little more independent, he's kind of introverted."
Wildwood Hills Ranch offers a variety of activities for campers, including horseback riding, water sports, team building, and arts and crafts.
